Begining of February and it is so mild I keep thinking we are much further on in the year. Worried about the flowers popping out so early.
Last month, I began my 10 weeks printing course. We started with monoprints and when it came to the coloured ones I liked the colours flowing over each other so much, I printed that alone.
We progressed to collographs and had to do designs and experiment with textures and layers. My first was out of my head (not always a good idea with me) and I had to force myself to try new things because I really wanted
a nice print and not to risk things too much. The second one I based on a drawing I had made years ago when visiting our daughter in Melbourne. It had a tree with many leaves. As I sat cutting and gluing down little fiddly bits of paper I though ‘this is not for me’
The next week we printed and wow! We used wet paper and a modern press to so relief and then dry paper and the most wonderful old press for intaglio. So smooth and simple. My intaglio was not good as I rubbed off too much ink. But it is all learning.
I also printed onto fabric. This had to be wet with wet paper too.
Now I am trying to learn how to cut vinyl which I have chosen in preference to lino. It is diffucult trying to work inreverse for the light and dark areas.
Meanwhile, I continue with my African pieces for the Travellers’ Tales exhibition.
